BCBS Arizona Promotes Actuary to Analytics Post

Phoenix-based Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BSBSAZ) has promoted Jeff Stelnik to SVP of strategy and analytics. He had been, and will continue to maintain the responsibilities of, chief actuary.

Stelnik will lead long-term corporate strategies and advanced analytics, overseeing the actuarial, underwriting, informatics and strategic planning functions.

“We are pleased to recognize Jeff for his great commitment and knowledge he’s brought to the company and the executive leadership team,” Sandy Gibson, EVP of external operations, says in a statement. “With more than 15 years of experience in the ever-changing insurance industry, his proven track record speaks volumes as to why he deserves this promotion.”

Stelnik has also worked with BCBSAZ’s government relations and public relations teams to educate internal and external stakeholders about the impact of health care reform on Arizonans. He developed the carrier's actuarial and underwriting strategies during the health care reform debate as well.
