Chartis Offers New Mapping Tech to Wildfire Insurance Customers

The AIG division is using RedZone Software to track U.S. wildfire behavior, conditions, direction and changing fire perimeters.

New York-based P&C insurer Chartis is offering wildfire intelligence powered by RedZone software to clients of its Wildfire Protection Unit.

Part of the company's larger Private Client Group, the unit is available in areas that are susceptible to fire, including Texas and southern California. Even if a fire is not raging, clients in areas where it is offered can enroll to receive at-home consultations with Chartis’ team of wildfire mitigation specialists. The team offers tips on fire protection, and also can apply a fire retardant around the perimeter of the property if necessary.

Now, a disaster intelligence center is part of the offering, using RedZone to track U.S. wildfire behavior, conditions, direction and changing fire perimeters. The software identifies insured homes in real time and communicates those locations to Chartis trucks.

“Access to homes can be compromised when a wildfire is nearby,” said Dorothy Sarna, SVP of risk management services for Chartis' private client group, in a statement. "Mapping technology enables us to stay ahead of the flames to better protect our enrolled clients who chose to take a proactive approach to safeguard their homes.”
