EHealth Ontario Inks CGI for Diabetes Portal

The goal of the is faster diagnoses, more effective treatment and improved management for Ontarians living with diabetes, the agency and company say.

EHealth Ontario, the government agency working to develop an electronic health record system in the Canadian province, has awarded Toronto-based CGI a six-year, $46 million contract for a chronic disease management system and portal which will be used to better manage diabetes care, the agency and company say.

"Through a rigorous procurement process, it became clear that CGI has the capabilities and industry expertise we need," Greg Reed, CEO of eHealth Ontario, says in a statement. "This project will provide a secure, shared registry, accessible by authorized clinicians, to manage diabetes more effectively. It is an essential component for Ontario's electronic health records. It will save lives, limbs and vision, and it will help make Ontario's health care system more sustainable."
