Medica Implements Customized Benefit Program for Commercial Customers

Health insurance company Medica has deployed a health scorecard platform from vendor HealthInsight to its commercial customers.

The new program allows members to keep track of their health with scorecards reporting information for required preventive services based on age and gender, risk for chronic conditions or whether those conditions exist, and individual compliance with personalized set of health actions.

The Minneapolis-based companies claim this move will help both reduce costs and increase quality of care.

“It is critical to address the challenge of rising health costs which, if left unchecked, cannot be sustained,” Simeon Schindelman, SVP of commercial markets for Medica, says in a statement. “Our goal is to decrease healthcare costs and improve employee health.”

Another goal of the implementation is to have Medica customers take more of a proactive approach to their health.

“In teaming with Medica, we will help empower their customers to make meaningful choices toward leading a healthier life,” HealthInsight CEO Martin Watson adds in the statement. “Medica and HealthInsight share the common goals of delivering improved quality of care and reducing health care costs.”
