NAIC Offers Accident Tips Via Mobile App
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners has released a mobile application, WreckCheck, that offers people who are in auto accidents a clear map of the steps toward filing an insurance claim.
The free app, available on iOS and Android phones, allows users to take crash images, record information, and e-mail that to their carrier or agent. The agency said that it conduced a consumer survey revealing that people are generally unsure about auto accident best practices, such as when to call the police or what personal information to exchange with the other driver after an accident.
The main goal in creating the app is preventing accident victims from sharing too much information that might lead to identity theft down the road, such as photographs of drivers licenses.
"The last thing you're probably thinking about following a car accident is protecting your privacy," NAIC President and Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty says in a statement. "Understanding what information to share, and with whom, will help keep you safe after an accident and decrease some of the challenges of filing a claim later on. That's also why the NAIC created WreckCheck. The app will take the guess work out of what information to get following a car accident."
