IBM is on the cutting edge of energy efficiency, explains Brian Gagnon and Chris Hughes of IBM�s Data Center Solutions. IBM�s data center optimization initiative, called Big Green, is transforming IBM�s distributed environment into a service bureau model that will reduce computing footprint, eliminate system administration overhead and lower software costs. When completed, Big Green will consolidate 3,900 distributed images from mission critical applications onto a Linux server. In addition to hardware and software, IBM�s acquisition of Novus Consulting gives the company the capability to assess an insurer�s current distributed environment and determine how that environment can improve within 18 to 36 months. Novus Consulting provides insurers with an ROI of any recommended data center optimization and provides the services to transform an insurer from a distributed to a service bureau environment.
