Oracle Releases New Cloud Platform

Exalogic Elastic Cloud is an integrated hardware and software system for both Java and non-Java applications, the company says.

Redwood Shores, Calif.-based database giant Oracle announced the release of Exalogic Elastic Cloud, which it describes as "an integrated hardware and software system engineered, tested, and tuned by Oracle to run Java and non-Java applications with extreme performance," at its OpenWorld 2010 conference.

Exalogic Elastic Cloud includes x86 hardware, the Oracle WebLogic Server and Exalogic software in a package designed for large-scale, mission-critical deployments, according to the company. It also accelerates the performance of the entire Oracle Fusion Middleware product portfolio, increases the performance of applications running on Oracle WebLogic Server with either Oracle Linux or Oracle Solaris 11, and is optimized for integration with Oracle Database 11g, Oracle Real Application Clusters and the Oracle Exadata Database Machine, the company says.

“Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud is a complete system of servers, network, storage, VM, operating system and middleware, all engineered to work together,” Oracle CEO Larry Ellison says in a statement. “This delivers stunning results, including the fastest Java performance, elastic capacity on demand and a completely fault tolerant system.”

Oracle brought on former HP executive Mark Hurd as president earlier this month.
