Video: I&T Reports from Hurricane Sandy's Initial Salvo

Insurance & Technology associate editor Nathan Golia puts the "journalist" in "citizen journalist" in this footage taken near his Brooklyn apartment.

Good morning from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where steady winds from Hurricane Sandy are churning the nearby New York Harbor. I live and work in a home office in this neighborhood, in an apartment about a block and a half from the water. My residence is on the border of New York City hurricane zones B and C, so we were not under an evacuation order, which only covered zone A. This is because Bay Ridge is at a fairly high elevation from the water.

But of course, we do enjoy the occasional jog and picnic by the water. That's why there is a city-maintained pier and pathway along the harbor. This morning, I went there to see the effects of Sandy's early bands. As you can see, the situation is deteriorating along the water.
