American Benefit Plan Administrators Selects FIS for Claims Payment and Remittance Management

ABPA says FIS' electronic payment distribution services will enable the third-party administrator to realize significant cost savings on processing claims.

American Benefit Plan Administrators, a Houston, Texas-based third-party administrator of employee benefits plans, has signed a multiyear agreement to convert its claims payment operations to Fidelity Information Services' (Jacksonville, Fla.) (FIS) healthcare claims payment and remittance management system, Claim Pay/Claim Remit, according to an FIS news release. ABPA completed implementation of the first phase of the conversion on July 1, 2010 and intends to complete the next phase by early 2011.

ABPA is also using FIS’ ProviderNet, a solution that gives healthcare providers an easy-to-use portal to manage claims payment and receivables tied to specific payers. For approved claims, payers transmit payment and remittance details (in 835 file format or another payer-defined format) through the portal. Rather than receiving paper checks and remittance documents, which can require substantial effort to post/reconcile, registered providers receive payments and remittance documents electronically, according to FIS.

ABPA, which serves more than 75 clients and over 275,000 plan participants, chose the FIS solution for multiple reasons, according to Kathie Pittman, senior vice president of operations, ABPA. “We were not satisfied with our current vendor and FIS offers electronic payment distribution services that allow us to realize significant cost savings on processing claims," she says. "FIS’ technology and web tools are superior in the industry and because FIS has multiple processing and mailing centers across the United States, our clients have 24/7/365 access to the solution."

"FIS also helps us to facilitate electronic payment distribution, which supports the recent healthcare reform mandate for ‘administrative simplification’ through the elimination of paper and transition to electronic payments," Pittman adds. "These benefits, combined with the realized savings in time, cost and postage, created a win-win situation for our customers, as well as ABPA."
