Getting Through the Crisis: Insurance & Technology Provides Strategies and Tools With New "IT Survival Guide"

I&T presents an in-depth report on the tools, skills and philosophies that can help insurance technology executives effectively manage budgets, maximize resources, and help drive growth -- even in the toughest business environment in years.

New research from the National Sleep Foundation reports that one-third of people surveyed say they are losing sleep -- literally -- over the recession and related economic fallout. Meanwhile, according to a recent New York Times article, sales of Advil PM tablets are up 16 percent so far this year compared to a year ago, and sales of Tylenol PM are up 6 percent compared to last year.

No doubt among these sleep-challenged individuals are many insurance IT executives, who find themselves trying to simultaneously reduce costs and drive growth in the most challenging business environment in 80 years. Add to that the fact that the future of the global financial services industry is in question, and it's a wonder that insurance CIOs are getting any rest at all. Anxiety often is driven by a sense of powerlessness, and these days it's easy to feel that one is not in control of one's own destiny, much less an IT budget.

Fortunately Insurance & Technology is here to remedy these concerns with this special issue, our first-ever IT Survival Guide. I&T's IT Survival Guide is an in-depth report on the tools, skills and mind-set that can help insurance technology leaders successfully manage budgets, track performance, maximize human resources, develop new initiatives to drive growth -- and maintain their sanity.

In this timely management resource, the I&T editorial team of executive editor Anthony O'Donnell and associate editor Nathan Conz have brought together an impressive array of industry experts -- past and present insurance CIOs, as well as consultants, analysts and technology solutions providers -- to offer real-world insights, case studies and recommendations as to how to manage IT more effectively and profitably in four key areas: Navigating IT Budget Challenges, Technology Strategies That Save Money, Workforce Challenges and Opportunities, and Surviving Crisis and Change.

We may not have the answers for how to resolve the financial crisis itself, but in this IT Survival Guide we do offer a number of valuable recommendations for making sure that insurance IT is part of the solution. You'll find even more information on our Web site, insurancetech.com. And, to keep the discussion going, you can follow me on Twitter at @kathyburger. In the meantime -- read up and get some rest!
