Agent portals

It's tough for insurers to commit to product or price advantages. Many carriers aim to set themselves apart through the speed and convenience of their agent portals, a key investment area for more than a decade.

"In terms of maturity, the agent portal is the most mature area on average for digital strategy," Goldberg says. This doesn't necessarily mean that these portals receive the most attention, but rather that insurers are constantly seeking ways to improve their agent portals. There is plenty of focus on improving data use and reporting on business intelligence.

Novarica's research concluded that, of the 14 common agent portal functions, the areas of greatest investment are online application submission, quick quotes, full quotes, asynchronous underwriter collaboration, and single login.
