HIAA Offers Fraud Program

HIAA training.

For IT leaders who are looking to learn more about healthcare fraud and even receive a professional insurance fraud designation, The Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA, Washington, DC) has launched the Health Care Anti-Fraud Associate (HCAFA) designation program.

The HCAFA consists of three programs: "Health Care Fraud: An Introduction to Detection, Investigation and Prevention"; "Insurance Fraud in Key Products: Disability, Long-Term Care, MedSupp, Drug Coverage & Others"; and "Health Care Fraud: Legal Issues."

But don't expect this program to be overflowing with anti-fraud technology information, says Gregory Dean, executive director, HIAA. "There is an overview of claims and fraud technology, but we had to be careful not to teach the crooks how to be crooks by giving too much detail on the tools that insurance companies use to detect fraud.

"This program is for director-level individuals in insurance that are involved or oversee claims processing," Dean says. "We anticipate the anti-fraud divisions of insurance companies will be interested in this program." Dean adds that the program is also geared towards state and government officials and fraud managers. Insurance professionals interested in earning the HCAFA designation can enroll, order books, schedule and take exams, all online at www.hiaa.org.
