The Big One
One of my favorite recreational activities is fishing, but it didn't start that way. I hated fishing as a kid. My dad liked to fish, but he was a maritime disaster waiting to happen. Fishing meant getting up early and being cold, hungry and bored.
Boy, have things changed! Now, I like the early morning quiet, the smell of salt water and the anticipation of catching the next big one.
I'm fortunate to live in an area (Seattle) that has an abundance of water and fish, and I have a brother and brother-in-law who are avid fishermen. We fish in Puget Sound and off the west coast of Vancouver Island for many species of salmon and bottom fish, including halibut - one of the ugliest but best-tasting fish on the planet.
In April, I am headed to the Florida Keys with my son Matt.
He loves to fish, and we can hardly wait to experience deep-sea and back-country fishing in the sunshine. I'm sure it will be a trip we remember.
