Berkshire Homestate Hits Phase II of Duck Creek PAS Rollout, Adds Vendor’s Billing Solution

The current stage of BHHC's Duck Creek-centered technology modernization effort will enable the carrier to issue an array of commercial insurance products, including auto, property and general liability.

Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies (BHHC, Atlanta), one of six regional carriers in the Berkshire Hathaway Insurance Group (Omaha, Nebraska) has gone live with the second phase of its Duck Creek Policy Administration implementation, which is at the core of the carrier's technology replacement project. Phase II will allow the insurer to issue an array of commercial insurance products, including auto, property and general liability, according to Duck Creek. BHHC has also acquired Duck Creek Billing to add to its modernization initiative, with plans to implement the solution across all commercial lines of business.

Phase I of BHHC's Duck Creek Policy Administration rollout enabled the carrier to issue policies directly through the system for workers' compensation for more than 30 states, according to a Duck Creek press release. Phase II is marked by BHHC's rollout of its new commercial auto product in Texas. Several states are planned to follow by this fall, according to the vendor.

BHHC is undertaking the systems replacement initiative to bring new products to market faster, with a configurable, flexible system while streamlining the carrier's policy management processes, according to the Duck Creek source.

"Duck Creek was selected as our partner because we wanted an integrated policy administration solution that was capable of combining a traditional ISO rating approach for some lines of business, with non-traditional proprietary rating algorithms for others," comments Rod Eldred, CEO, BHHC. "In addition, the ability to develop our own workflow processes and maintain the system ourselves is a huge advantage."

"The increased operational effectiveness of Duck Creek's web enablement will provide our agents with the ability to quickly quote, bind and issue," Eldred adds. "We are pleased with the progress of our modernization project and with the addition of Duck Creek Billing, now our solutions will share one platform — systems will be consolidated. The billing front-end is impressive and the integration ease with the policy administration system will help streamline our processes."
