HCSC Acquires MEDecision
Chicago-based Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC) has acquired MEDecision (Wayne, Pa.), a health care management solutions provider. As a result of the merger, under which MEDecision shareholders will receive $7.00 per share in cash, the vendor will become a wholly-owned HCSC subsidiary.
According to press materials, the deal is part of an HCSC plan to build a technology platform that will have "broad impact" among Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) health plans, as well as non-Blue health insurers. HCSC is currently the country's fourth largest health insurer, with BCBS plans in Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
"Joining forces with MEDecision will enhance our ability to be an industry leader in health care management and wellness, which is vital to our future success," said HCSC president and chief operating officer Pat Hemingway Hall in a statement. "Moreover, the technological capabilities that MEDecision provides will help us tackle the underlying costs of health care and enable us to contribute significantly to better health and less health care spending for our members."
