Fireman's Fund/CGI Contract Adds Subsidiary

In order to facilitate a common infrastructure across Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. and its subsidiary, Fireman's Fund Interstate Insurance Group, the carrier has extended its contract with CGI to include infrastructure services for the subsidiary.

In order to facilitate a common infrastructure across Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. (FFIC, Novato, CA) and its subsidiary, Fireman's Fund Interstate Insurance Group (Chicago), the carrier has extended its contract with Toronto-based CGI (a contract that was originally awarded by FFIC on Oct. 2, 2001) to include infrastructure services for the subsidiary.

According to Deb Casurella, head of IT for Fireman's Fund Interstate Insurance Group, it was decided that Interstate Insurance's infrastructure would be outsourced to leverage cost savings while maintaining a secure and reliable common infrastructure across Fireman's Fund. CGI was selected because the outsourcing provider had successfully delivered services to Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.

As part of the agreement, CGI will provide Interstate Insurance with IT support services in Chicago, Denver, New Jersey, San Francisco and Atlanta. Additionally, CGI will offer support services through its near-shore delivery facilities in Canada and its Phoenix data center and will handle maintenance of 99 servers running Microsoft (Redmond, WA) NT and Unix platforms. Also, CGI will provide support for more than 860 desktops, laptops and printers.

According to Billy McCarter, senior vice president and CIO, Fireman's Fund, the carrier is at its first-year anniversary with CGI and has experienced a successful and seamless transition of its critical information technology operations. Additionally, the carrier's time objective was shortened because CGI delivered services before they were anticipated. Last year, FFIC awarded a 10-year outsourcing contract to CGI after conducting an extensive search of outsourcing providers.
