Aflac Creates CTO Role in New Investments Division

Former Deutsche Bank technology executive J. Peter Kelso takes the reigns of the new position, which is in a recently created office tasked with managing Aflac's investment portfolio.

Columbus, Ga.-based Aflac Incorporated has named J. Peter Kelso managing director; chief investments technology officer in the company's Global Investment Division.

Kelso will be primarily responsible for strategy, implementation and oversight of all aspects of information technology related to Aflac's Investment Division globally. The division, based in New York, is responsible for managing Aflac's corporate investment portfolio. It opened as a separate office last year under the auspices of Eric Kirsch, global chief investment officer. Kelso will report functionally to SVP and global investments COO Joseph Meyer, along with Kirsch.

Kelso and Kirsch worked together at Deutsche Bank, where Kelso last served as managing director; head of Application Services for Asset Management, Securities Lending, Funding, Listed Derivatives, CMBS, RMBS, Loans, Money Markets and Foreign Exchange. He has also worked at Merrill Lynch and Bankers Trust.

"We are delighted that Pete has joined Aflac's Global Investment Division. Having worked with him previously at Deutsche Asset Management, I have firsthand knowledge of Pete's accomplishments and his ability to deliver results," Kirsch said in a statement. Meyer added that Kelso's "expertise in leading global IT and operations teams will prove to be a tremendous asset to Aflac's Investment Division."
