Alan Hughes Named BCBSNC CIO
Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC, Chapel Hill) has named Alan Hughes CIO and senior vice president of information services. Hughes succeeds a retiring John Sternbergh.
A two-decade veteran of senior technology leadership, Hughes was formerly CIO of GE Financial's Global Risk Management organization and also served as CIO of the company's Distribution Finance unit. He was also president of business services and CIO for Deutsche Financial Services, which was acquired by GE Financial in 2003.
"Alan Hughes brings demonstrated success and a clear understanding of the link between information technology and business success," comments Brad Wilson, COO, BCBSNC. "He has a strong record of helping global organizations make the most of information to meet financial, competitive and regulatory needs." Hughes has an MBA from New York University and a bachelor's degree in biological sciences from the State University of New York - Old Westbury.
John Sternbergh is retiring June 30 after serving BCBSNC for the past seven years where he worked improving IT governance and reliability, integrating business systems, and transforming the BCBNSC enterprise data warehouse, according to a carrier source.
