BCBS of Alabama Names Terry Kellogg President and COO

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama's (BCBS of Alabama, Birmingham) directors have elected Terry Kellog president and chief operating officer. Announcement of the election coincides with the retirement of Phillip Pope, president and CEO, effective June 30, 2010.

Kellogg, currently the insurer's executive vice president and COO, arrived at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama 28 years ago as vice president and chief actuary, according to a BCBS of Alabama source. He has served as a senior officer for the last 12 years and was named executive vice president in 2002. Kellogg currently serves on the boards of the Birmingham Area Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also serves as an officer of the Business Council of Alabama and as Treasurer of the United Way of Central Alabama.

"We have made several organizational and strategic changes over the past year to maximize our ability to exceed our customers' expectations in today's rapidly changing healthcare environment,so most of the major changes are already behind us." says Kellogg of the company's impending leadership transition."

As part of the transition, BCBS of Alabama's directors have elected Tim Kirkpatrick as the company's new executive vice President. Kirkpatrick, currently senior vice president, has been with the company for 33 years, including the past 10 years as a senior officer.
