BlueCross BlueShield's Vicky Gregg Embraces IT's Ability to Transform Health Insurance
Tapping technology to improve healthcare delivery and enhance the administration and adjudication of health insurance has been a high priority at Chattanooga, Tenn.-based BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, and in the coming months president and CEO Vicky Gregg will have a number of opportunities to advance this mission. In April the carrier announced it would join with Oregon-based Blue plan Regence and Apax Partners, a private equity firm, in a deal to acquire and take private TriZetto, a provider of IT-based administrative solutions to the healthcare payer market. "Our ownership interest ... deepens [a] strategic relationship that we believe will help us transform healthcare," Gregg said in a press release.
Gregg also is making sure that BCBST is on the leading edge of the movement toward incorporating environmentally friendly "green" principles into business strategy. The carrier recently announced its intention to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification -- a national benchmark for the design, construction and operation of green buildings -- for its new Chattanooga headquarters.
