CareFirst BCBS Selects Benefitfocus E-Billing System
Baltimore-based health carrier CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield will use Charleston, S.C.-based Benefitfocus' eBilling system, expanding its existing implementation of the Benefitfocus platform.
Electronic billing will be expanded to the carrier's 180,000 individual members. It implemented a joint platform from Benefitfocus and NASCO last month for its large group market.
The platform allows policyholders to manage and pay their bills online through a web portal. They can pay a consolidated bill for multiple benefits, view their billing history, print bills, opt in for e-mail notifications and schedule recurring payments.
CareFirst can also configure and customize the colors and layout of the user interface, as well as the rules for what each customer is allowed to view.
"Improving administrative efficiencies will be important in addressing the challenges of a rapidly changing healthcare industry," Andy Sullivan, SVP of the consumer direct administrative service unit for CareFirst, says in a statement.
