AXA Equitable Names David O’Leary EVP/Head of Financial Protection
David O’Leary, most recently EVP and chief operating officer of American General Life Insurance Companies (a unit of AIG), has joined New York-based AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company to lead the carrier’s Financial Protection division, which houses AXA’s life insurance business. His title, executive vice president, is subject to board approval in September. O’Leary reports to Andrew McMahon, senior executive vice president and president of the company’s Financial Protection and Wealth Management business.
In this new role, O’Leary will be responsible for the four major units of the Financial Protection division: Business Management & Operations, Product Life Cycle Management, Product Design & Manufacturing; and Distribution Management. With more than 25 years experience as a life insurance industry executive, O’Leary will be taking charge of a life insurance operation in the process of expanding its product offerings with an emphasis on meeting heightened consumer demand for financial security in the wake of one of the most volatile periods in recent financial-markets history, according to an AXA Equitable statement.
Before joining American General in 2006, O’Leary headed up the annuity business at Mass Mutual Financial Group, following stints at the Aetna Financial Services division of Aetna Inc., the CIGNA Individual Insurance division of CIGNA Corp., and Security-Connecticut Life Insurance Co.
