Ex-NAIC CIO Bridges Worlds
After working with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC, Kansas City) for 13 years, Gary Gummig believes he's found a new fit with Innovative IT Solutions (iITs), an Okema, MI-based provider of solutions that connect insurance companies and state regulatory agencies. Having served as the NAIC's CIO and vice president of the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR)-a non-profit arm of the NAIC-Gummig concentrated on technology-based interactions with state insurance departments and played a key role in the development of the Producer Database, which contains information on approximately 3.3 million insurance agents across the nation.
That experience has given Gummig a unique understanding of "how both the regulatory and nationaldatabases worked, and how the data is handled on the industry side," he says. At iITs, "I saw a great opportunity to help the regulators and the industry," Gummig says.
As vice president of e-Government at iITs, Gummig will spend much of his time interacting with various state insurance bodies as he works to develop new products and improve existing iITs offerings. He currently is helping to develop the next generation of iITs' COSMOS product for the automation of state agencies' database functions.
