Chartis' Japan Unit Plans to Use IOS Devices For Claims Adjustment

A total of 100 iPads and iPhones wil be disbursed to AIU Insurance Company adjusters beginning April 11.

Tokyo-based AIU Insurance Company, a unit of Chartis Far East Holdings, will support iPads and iPhones to facilitate insurance adjustments and expedite claims payments in the wake of the March 11 earthquake in northern Japan.

Chartis’ U.S. office made an emergency procurement of iPad2s following the disaster because of the device's new video communication ability, the company said. AIU developed the adjustment system using Smart Attack, a cloud computing service provided by Going.com Inc.

"The use of mobile terminals greatly simplifies the claims adjustment process and enhances efficiency, allowing for a shorter time frame for payment of insurance claims to the policyholder," AIU president and CEO Robert L. Noddin says in a statement.

A second strong earthquake, 7.4 magnitude, hit Japan on April 7.
