Cigna, Samsung Enter Mobile Development Partnership

Cigna and Samsung have agreed to develop health and wellness features for Samsung’s S mobile devices.

Cigna, based in Bloomfield, Conn, will develop health and wellness features with Samsung, based in Seoul, South Korea, for S Health, a health tracking application on Samsung smartphones.

“Samsung’s innovative products are fun and engaging part of the lives of people in nearly 80 countries,” says Benjamin Karsch, head of brand, marketing communications and digital marketing at Cigna, in a release. “By teaming up with the global leader in smart mobile devices, we are putting the power to embrace better health literally into the hands of millions of people around the world.”

Cigna has planned to incorporate content, experience and engines for clinical insights. S Health collects health information from the smartphone and personal health devices, like a blood pressure monitoring machine, through Bluetooth. The information is shown on a mobile dashboard. The application was initially developed to deliver health-related tips and connect individuals to caregivers.

The content from Cigna will be incorporated into Samsung Galaxy note 3 in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Italy and Spain in Oct. 2013. Additional functions and features will be developed over the next year.
