Former CIO Draws on Experience
Recalling the challenges he faced as a long-time insurance CIO, James Logan says, "One of my biggest problems as a CIO was dealing with the legacy environment and the limitations that it imposed on the organization." In his new role as global general manager, Exigen Group (San Francisco), the former MetLife (New York) CIO is helping insurers and other financial institutions deal with that challenge. "The capabilities Exigen has in turning legacy environments into more of an asset and less of a liability is one of the biggest things that attracted me to the company," Logan says.
Logan is responsible for vertical business, insurance and financial services at Exigen, a provider of comprehensive, integrated line-of-business process solutions for insurance, financial services and communications companies. He joined Exigen after more than 26 years with MetLife.
According to Logan, working for a solutions provider, as opposed to a large insurer, "is like night and day. MetLife was a very large, hierarchical organization. Exigen is a small company with 600 employees, and it is rapidly growing."
Despite these differences, Logan is able to draw on his MetLife knowledge in his new role. "There are a million things that I've learned at MetLife that I use every day," he says. "I know the problems that large financial organizations have with acquiring and implementing technology."
