Excellus Contracts MedImpact for Pharmacy Benefit Services

MedImpact will provide claims processing, pharmacy network contracting and pharmacy customer service functions.

Rochester, N.Y.-based Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield has selected San Diego's MedImpact Healthcare Systems to provide claims processing, pharmacy network contracting, and pharmacy customer service functions for its Medicare Part D and Part B lines of business.

“MedImpact is one of the top pharmacy benefit management companies in the country,” Joel Owerbach, VP and chief pharmacy officer for Excellus Health Plans, says in a statement. “This partnership and alliance will allow us to effectively deliver claims processing and benefit management technology to our programs, as well as continued innovation to our pharmacy management initiatives for our employers and for the members they serve.”

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield will remain the pharmacy benefit manager through its FLRx Division for all of the government and commercial products for Excellus BCBS, Univera Healthcare, and Simply Prescriptions.
