SWISS RE CLAIMS HEAD

Richard H. Murray has been appointed chief claims strategist, a newly created position at Swiss Re (Zurich). Murray will coordinate global reinsurance and insurance claims processes across Swiss Re's three business groups, financial services, life and health and P&C.

Herbert M. Allison was named chairman, president and chief executive of TIAA-CREF (New York). A former president of Merrill Lynch & Co., Allison was most recently president and chief executive of AllLearn.org, a nonprofitventure of Oxford, Stanford and Yale universities that offers enrichment learning in the arts and sciences through the Internet.

MAPFRE'S NEW V-CHAIR

Spanish insurance company Mutualidad Mapfre (Madrid), a mutually held automobile insurance company, has appointed Alberto Manzano as its new vice chairman as part of a wider executive reorganization.

MUELLER PROMOTED

Schaumburg, IL-based Zurich North America has named Nancy Mueller to the position of executive vice president, corporate actuarial and risk management.

SHERWOOD APPOINTS

Sherwood International (Armonk, NY), a global insurance technology solutions specialist, named Dan Sobotincic chief technology officer and appointed Alex Davis director of global strategic projects.
