Hancock Eyes Global Needs
Boston-based John Hancock made two appointments to its global compliance team. The carrier named Kevin Cloherty to the new position of VP and chief counsel of global and U.S. compliance and appointed Mitchell Karman to fill the existing position of VP, counsel and U.S. chief compliance officer.
Cloherty will provide strategic legal advice and related services on compliance issues affecting the financial services businesses of the company and its parent, Manulife Financial Corp. (Toronto; $347.7 billion in funds under management). Karman will oversee compliance resources related to the carrier's distribution of protection and investment management products in the U.S.
"We are very pleased to be adding two highly talented and experienced attorneys to further strengthen our compliance team," says James Gallagher, John Hancock's SVP and global compliance chief. "Mitchell Karman helped create and build the compliance program and department for MetLife affiliate New England Financial. Kevin Cloherty brings us a wealth of both public and private sector experience in governmental and regulatory compliance issues."
