ING Names Former AIG Exec CEO of U.S. Insurance

The Amsterdam-based financial services company is looking for leadership at its U.S. insurance unit as it prepares for an IPO.

Amsterdam-based ING Groep has named Rodney Martin CEO of its ING Insurance U.S. unit (Windsor, Conn.).

Martin last served as chairman of AIG's International Life and Retirement Services businesses. He will report to ING Group CEO Jan Hommen.

“Rod is an outstanding veteran of the U.S. insurance industry and his appointment constitutes an important building block to the preparation of a successful IPO of ING’s U.S. insurance and investment management businesses,” Hommen says in a statement.

Reporting to Martin will be Rob Leary, who had been serving as CEO of the company but will take on a role as president and COO.

“The combination with Rob Leary as a results-oriented leader provides us with a strong management team capable of taking these leading businesses forward in their standalone future," Hommen adds.

ING Insurance U.S. named Gary Baxter CIO last year.
