Jaime Sguerra Joins MetLife

Jaime Sguerra has left his position as chief technology officer at Guardian Life (New York) to take on the responsibilities of MetLife's (New York; $537.8 billion in total assets) VP in charge of institutional service center systems. In his new role Sguerra will be responsible for the portfolio of applications that provide service to MetLife's group insurance customers. He will report to institutional business CIO Georgette Piligian.

Sguerra is charged with reviewing the current state of the systems, evaluating their cost-effectiveness and alignment with business objectives going forward. He says he plans to apply the same kind of creativity to his new job that characterized the architectural innovation he drove at Guardian Life. "My approach toward implementing technical and business architectures is one that looks at whether technologies may be obsolete, providing opportunities for consolidation, as well as making sure that technologies that work are well integrated," Sguerra comments. "Integration is going to be an important aspect of the role."

Sguerra also emphasizes the importance of refining the institutional service center systems team. "It's a question of having the right mix of people in the right jobs, as well as potentially bringing in new skills that can help elevate the level of service," he says.
