Medica Offers E-Prescribing to All Members
Minneapolis-based health carrier Medica has made e-prescriptions available to its members. It previously had allowed e-prescribing for its Medicare Part D members and its Minnesota Health Care Program recipients.
The capability allows physicians to check whether a patient has pharmacy benefit coverage and for which drugs, whether or not a patient is already on medication or if a drug requires prior authorization.
Among the benefits of e-prescriptions are less confusion and errors, quicker delivery and convenience, Medica says.
“E-prescribing is fast becoming standard practice and Medica is pleased to make an enhanced version available to benefit all of our members,” Dr. Thomas Becker, Medica medical director, care management, says in a statement. “We believe this will improve patient safety and help create a better health care experience for our members and the providers who choose to use it.”
Medica deployed a health scorecard platform from HealthInsight late last month. It works with SureScripts and MedImpact for its e-prescriptions.
Other insurers making recent moves in the e-prescription arena include Medical Mutual of Ohio, which partnered with Medco for e-prescriptions in April.
