Newark, N.J.-based Prudential Financial has appointed Joseph Hayes VP of information systems and CIO of its Group Insurance unit. The unit sells group life, long-term and short-term disability, long-term care, dental, and corporate and trust-owned life insurance to U.S. institutional clients.

Hayes has been with Prudential since 1997, most recently as VP of IT operations in its Annuities unit. He also has worked at Merrill Lynch.

“Technology and the role it plays in our business is critical to our success. How we deliver new products, services and innovation to our customers in the marketplace is in part very much dependent on our IT capabilities,” Helayne Klier, SVP of service delivery for Prudential Group Insurance, says in a statement. “Joe’s depth of knowledge and passion for excellence, combined with his experience, makes him the ideal choice for the job. We’re thrilled to have him leading our Information Systems team.”
