IBM is working with insurers to apply virtual worlds to business applications, explains Kathy Hutson, Global Solutions Manager. Virtual worlds have many uses and enable insurers to reach out to a variety of consumers. For example, virtual worlds can help insurers build better brand relationships with teens through simulated driving courses. Virtual worlds that help consumers visually understand insurance concepts such as planning for retirement or purchasing home owners insurance appeal to an older audience. Insurers can also use virtual worlds for internal training of claims adjustors, creating complex what-if scenarios such as a fire investigation for less cost than a real-world simulation.
