Good Technology Acquires 'App-Wrapping' Company AppCentral
A report on I&T sister site BYTE today says that Good Technology, a mobile device management company whose clients include Nationwide and Highmark, has acquired AppCentral, a company that makes "app-wrapping" technologies.
According to the article, AppCentral's technology "allows administrators to distribute apps confined in a secure shell which limits the app's capabilities and increases the ability to manage the app." AXA Equitable chief information security officer Roy Post told I&T earlier this year that his company was already exploring this kind of technology to make more secure apps for its customers.
However, Good Technology sees the technology as a way to custom-develop and easily control enterprise apps to enable bring-your-own-device policies. In a statement, King Lee, president and CEO of the company, said: "Our acquisition of AppCentral will accelerate and enhance our ability to provide enterprises, ISVs and systems integrators with the ability to secure and manage mobile apps, helping them maximize the power of mobility."
