The Harford Mutual Selects SunGard iWORKS for Billing

Seeking to streamline billing and collection of payments and gain automation-related efficiencies, The Harford Mutual Insurance Companies has chosen SunGard's iWORKS Premium Billing Solution (PBS).

Upon a single implementation of PBS, the Bel Air, Maryland commercial P&C carrier will be able use SunGard's enterprise-wide billing solution for all of its companies and affiliates, regardless of the combinations of billing methodologies required, according to a SunGard source. The system will provide comprehensive commissions, code and rules-based payment plans and fee structures, as well as XML system-to-system integration, SunGard claims.

"We chose SunGard because of its experience in the industry, its service-oriented staff, and its responsiveness in adapting the solution to meet our requirements and the needs of our customers," says Stephen Fabian, director, IT, The Harford Mutual. "We also have confidence in SunGard's proven ability to deliver a cost-effective, on-time implementation."

While The Harford Mutual cannot disclose the terms of its contract with SunGard, Tim Rutledge, the carrier's director of accounting says the SunGard iWORKS PBS initiative will be the second largest of 2008, after an agency portal initiative. Rutledge comments that PBS was selected for flexibility and technological compatibility, as well as its ability to provide easy, Web-based access for agents and customers. "Our existing system was antiquated—it was the last application on our AS/400, and we wanted to move off that box," Rutledge says.
