Track Peak Season Hurricanes at Insurance & Technology
The peak month of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season is living up to billing, with two hurricanes currently moving roughly westward across open seas. You can observe the progress of these storms through Insurance & Technology's Hurricane Tracker, made possible through partnership with Weather Central.
Igor has become a giant, category 4 hurricane with sustained winds near 135 mph, according to a report from the National Hurricane Center. A pressure trough to the north is pulling the storm away from its former trajectory toward the Northern Leeward Islands, but Igor could still impact Bermuda, according to a Weather Channel report. The National Hurricane Center has limited its cautionary advice to the possibility of dangerous rip currents in the Antilles.
Julia is currently roughly 350 miles west-northwest of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands, with sustained winds of 85 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center's latest advisory notice. The storm is expected to both speed up and weaken in intensity as it follows a west-northwest course.
