Two BCBS Plans Implement Benefitfocus/NASCO Joint Platform
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (Detroit) and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (Baltimore) have implemented versions of a joint platform from Benefitfocus (Charleston, S.C.) and NASCO (Atlanta).
Benefitfocus and NASCO offer an integrated system combining the former's benefit shopping, enrollment and management capabilities with the latter's claims processing, membership and billing capabilities. The Michigan carrier is using the platform in its consumer, small and large group markets, while the Maryland carrier is using the platform for its large group market.
"NASCO and Benefitfocus have strong existing partnerships with Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans," John Lagada, CEO of NASCO, says in a statement. " We have worked together for several years to bring complementary solutions to market."
"We're eager to work with NASCO to offer online enrollment and billing capabilities to Blue Plans," Shawn Jenkins, president and CEO of Benefitfocus, adds. "We share a common goal of delivering the technology they require to operate efficiently, maintain a competitive advantage and expand their customer base."
