Unum Group Appoints Former Sun Life Exec as New CFO

Unum Group (Chattanooga, Tenn.) announced today that Richard P. McKenney will join the employee benefits and disability income protection insurer as executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO).

McKenney will succeed Robert C. Greving, who announced his intended retirement in February. According to a Unum press release, Greving will remain with the company for several months to help with the transition process.

Before joining Unum, McKenney served as executive vice president and CFO at Toronto-based Sun Life Financial. McKenney has also spent time at Genworth Financial (Richmond, Va.), where he previously served as senior vice president and CFO.

McKenney will report to Thomas R. Watjen, president and chief executive officer of Unum Group. "Rick brings to Unum substantial financial and operational experience, and he has a proven track record of success as a senior financial officer and leader," Watjen said in the press release. "I am confident he will fit in well with the culture we have established and will be a significant contributor to our company, senior leadership team and board of directors."
