WellPoint Names Lori Beer EVP of Newly Formed Enterprise Business Services Unit

A.J. Lang, who joined WellPoint in 2008, will succeed Beer in the CIO Role.

WellPoint has appointed Lori Beer executive vice president of the newly formed Enterprise Business Services (EBS) organization. WellPoint describes EBS as an integrated team that brings together five core business support functions: Service Operations, Operational Excellence, Information Technology, Information Management, and Sourcing and Supplier Management, according to a WellPoint announcement.

"It is essential that we continually evaluate our administrative structure to ensure we appropriately meet the needs of our customers and members. By creating this new, integrated organization, we will operate more efficiently while providing industry-leading business support services," comments Angela F. Braly, CEO, WellPoint. "Our customers expect quality products and services at affordable prices and WellPoint is committed to meeting their needs."

Beer was named acting CIO of WellPoint in May 2008 and took on the role on a formal basis in Aug. 2008. She was honored with Insurance & Technology's Elite 8 Award for distinguished insurance senior technology officers in 2009.

A. J. Lang, who joined WellPoint in 2008, succeeds beer as CIO. He has 25 years of experience managing global business initiatives in the healthcare, banking and credit card industries. He most recently served as senior vice president of systems delivery for IT at WellPoint.
