Securian Financial Group Launches Facebook Page

Rather than push products, the company is promoting its workplace culture and charitable efforts through social.

Securian Financial Group, the St. Paul, Minn.-based holding company parent of Minnesota Life Insurance Company, Cherokee National Life Insurance Company, CNL/Insurance America, Securian Financial Services, Inc., Securian Casualty Company, Securian Life Insurance Company and Securian Trust Company, has opened a Facebook page touting its workplace culture.

"Our goal is to use social media to build an online community where people who want to know more about us, our culture, and our community can learn about Securian Financial Group," Steve Wolff, director, corporate communications for Securian, says in a statement. Most posts deal with recruiting and employment. Others discuss employee volunteer activities as well as community involvement at the corporate level.

Securian decided to run a corporate Facebook page after using one for its Securian Frozen 5K and Half Marathon.More than 600 people became fans of the page last winter and the company plans to continue its dialogue with that community this fall.
