After a Summer Break, Steward Searches for his Next Challenge
Though Chris Steward left his position as CIO and VP of information systems at Arbella in April 2008 and took the summer off to relax a little and help out with a serious illness in his family, the 2007 Elite 8 honoree is still innovating. He reports that he's been involved -- "admittedly somewhat tangentially to this point" -- in an effort to develop standard data models for the P&C industry, a project spearheaded by one of this year's Elite 8, Penn National's Bill Jenkins.

Certainly there is no shortage of challenges facing the industry. The biggest, Steward says, will be the need for carriers to get off their legacy systems and onto Web-based systems. Insurers, Steward adds, will need to be mindful that the majority of people who support many legacy systems are fast approaching retirement.
