Subrogation generally is regarded as a labor- and time-intensive process due to the constant need for copying and mailing evidentiary or other paper documentation from the demand/response portion of the subrogation process. This slows the identification of loss recovery opportunities.

But Arbitration Forums (Tampa, Fla.; total annual claim value of more than $1.8 billion), a nonprofit provider of inter-insurance dispute resolution services, is introducing a new Web-based subrogation system, with technology provided by Siteras Technologies (Deerfield, Ill.), that lets users send and receive demands electronically, attach supporting documents, route demands to file handlers, negotiate online, and view and download online reports. "We take care of the back end and facilitate the exchange of information, regardless of the platform the insurance company is on," says Geoff Engert, director, Arbitration Forums.

The solution essentially is a clearinghouse - to be called E-Subro Hub, for Electronic Subrogation Demand/Response Processing System - that will allow insurers rekeying on any level of technology to standardize the subrogation process.
