Edward Liddy Named CEO of AIG
Edward Liddy has been named chief executive officer of American International Group, Inc. (AIG), succeeding Robert Willumstad. Stephen Bollenback, who was named lead independent director in June 2008, will continue in that role.
Liddy, who was recognized by Insurance & Technology as a Tech-Savvy CEO in 2003, is a former chairman of The Allstate Corporation (Northbrook, Ill.), had served as Allstate's Chairman and CEO from 1999 to 2006, and as president and chief operating officer from 1994 to 1998. He joined the private equity firm of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice in 2008. Liddy led the initial public offering and 1995 spin-off of Allstate from Sears, Roebuck and Co. (Chicago), and he served as senior vice president and chief financial officer, and as senior vice president-operating.
