OneBeacon Earns Energy Star for Energy Efficiency

OneBeacon Insurance Group's U.S. corporate headquarters in Canton Mass. has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Energy Star rating. Commercial buildings and industrial plants that rate in the top 25 percent of facilities in the nation for energy efficiency may qualify for the Energy Star designation.

Commercial buildings that earn the Energy Star use an average 40 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

"We have made a conscious effort to run our businesses as 'green' as possible," says Paul Newman, OneBeacon director of corporate facilities. "Through these efforts, we have improved our energy performance by making cost-effective improvements that have prevented greenhouse gas emissions equal to the electricity use from 165 households for a year."
