2014 Roundup: This Year in Mobile Apps
Towards the end of 2013, experts forecasted a boost in tech investments from insurers across the industry, noting the importance of mobile advancement. “Mobile technology can reach and service markets that increasingly demand convenience and a flexible interface,” stated one forward-looking report from EY.
To accommodate the expectations of their tech-savvy policyholders, carriers allocated more of their budgets and talent towards improving their mobile offerings in 2014. Some created brand-new mobile apps; others added more features to their existing ones. While enhancements came from all corners of the industry, the health insurance sector was especially active in the mobile space.
Over the course of this year, it became evident that insurers have begun to think outside the box in terms of mobile features. One health provider has broadened its focus to help members achieve mental wellness. An insurer in the P&C space created an app to help policyholders stay safe while traveling the globe.
